“The Swan, The Werewolf and Gianpiero” Brings Dark Comedy and Argentine Tango to Camden Fringe

The Swan, The Werewolf and Gianpiero, a new dark comedy from London-based Drama Queen Studios, will be presented at the Etcetera Theatre as part of the 2026 Camden Fringe, following a preview performance at CoLab Theatre in July.

Written by Agata Nielsen and developed with consulting director Krystian Godlewski, the 60-minute production centres on tango partners Roxana and Mateo, whose relationship breaks down backstage just minutes before they are due to perform.

Their argument moves from backstage to the stage itself, where their director Gianpiero decides to incorporate the unexpected situation into the performance. Described as an eccentric self-proclaimed artistic genius and alleged descendant of Julius Caesar, Gianpiero casts Mateo as a werewolf and Roxana as a swan, turning the couple’s conflict into the basis for his latest theatrical creation.

The production combines Argentine tango with comedy and theatrical performance, following the increasingly chaotic interaction between the performers and their director.

The cast features James Wilkinson as Gianpiero, Agata Nielsen as Roxana, Esteban Mereles as Mateo and Madalina Miron as the Maid.

Nielsen is an actress, writer and producer and founder of Drama Queen Studios, an independent London-based theatre and film production company. Her previous work includes the short film The Therapy Session, which premiered at Raindance and received multiple awards. She is also developing a feature film and an immersive theatre project, Tango Night.

Wilkinson, who studied medicine at Cambridge and works as a doctor in London, has practised Argentine tango since his student years. Mereles is an Italian-Argentinian artist working across film and performance, while Miron has more than a decade of experience with Argentine tango and has also appeared in Mereles’ short film Not There.

Consulting director Godlewski is an actor of Polish origin with training in physical theatre, polyphonic singing, butoh, mime, acrobatics and modern dance. His screen credits include Guardians of the GalaxyEnid and Lucy and Lucky Man 2, alongside theatre work at venues including the Lyceum in Edinburgh and the Unicorn Theatre.

The production was previously presented at the Etcetera Theatre in 2024 and has since been developed for further performances.

Following its July preview at CoLab Theatre, The Swan, The Werewolf and Gianpiero will be presented at the Etcetera Theatre during Camden Fringe on Saturday 22 August at 5pm, Sunday 23 August at 5pm and Monday 24 August at 7pm.

The show is also scheduled for two performances at the Voilà! Theatre Festival at The Playground Theatre in November.

Drama Queen Studios describes itself as an independent London-based theatre and film production company founded by Nielsen, working across theatre, film and other forms of live performance.

The Swan, The Werewolf and Gianpiero will be presented at the Etcetera Theatre, 265 Camden High Street, London NW1 7BU, as part of Camden Fringe 2026.
