EdFringe Review – Modern Horror Stories at Tolbooth Market
Modern Horror Stories is an anthology horror show featuring nine modern-day tales of terror, death and the supernatural. From online paranoia and ghost hunting, to the perils of dating after the zombie apocalypse. It’s a collection of scenes and short plays that challenge us to think about the modern society and how horror creeps into our daily life.
If you’re expecting dark, empty alleys, fog, mist, graveyards and monsters (which would be the cliche of an horror show) you’d be disappointed. The horror described in these 9 stories is much more subtle and chilling, it’s the horror of how tecnology and modern daily routine have changed the way we go through life, and how our psychology is affected by it. From our relationship with social media, to how we deal with anger on public transportation, our modern daily life seems to be scarier than a horror movie.
To be a horror show, it’s really rather funny. David Bourn, Alasdair Buddington and James Wordsworth’s writing is witty, clever and fun. The actors do a very good job at delivering their performances, transforming smoothly from one character into the other.
It is a solid show that will make you laugh, using comedy as a way to escape the terror of where our society is heading to.
