Rob Colletti Joins ‘One Piece’ Season 2 as Antagonist Wapol

Actor Rob Colletti appears in the second season of the live-action series One Piece, now streaming on Netflix, taking on the role of Wapol, one of the antagonists introduced in the show’s Drum Island storyline.

Colletti, whose background is primarily in theatre, entered the project through an audition process that initially did not reveal the identity of the production. According to the actor, he approached the material without knowing it was connected to the long-running manga created by Eiichiro Oda. He said he focused on interpreting the scenes through character motivations and tone, noting that the material contained both comedic elements and darker undertones.

Once he learned the role was Wapol, Colletti began researching the source material and broader narrative of One Piece, one of the most widely known manga and anime franchises worldwide. His preparation included studying the character’s motivations and positioning within the story’s larger arc.

Colletti’s screen work follows a career largely built on stage. He previously originated the role of Lester Bangs in the Broadway adaptation of Almost Famous, directed by Cameron Crowe. His theatre credits also include playing Elder Cunningham in The Book of Mormon and portraying Dewey Finn in the first national tour of School of Rock.

Preparing for One Piece also involved physical training. Colletti said he completed several weeks of stunt preparation and performed a number of his own action sequences during filming. The role required extended time in makeup and prosthetics, as well as wearing armour and costume pieces designed to match the character’s appearance from the original story.

The actor has also acknowledged the scale of the franchise’s global audience. After researching the series created by Oda, he said he gained a clearer understanding of the dedicated fan community surrounding One Piece.

Season 2 of One Piece continues the live-action adaptation of the long-running manga and follows the Straw Hat crew as they progress through new story arcs, including the events set on Drum Island, where Wapol enters the narrative as a central adversary.
