Review – Headhog

Review by Andreea Helen David.
Molly has a hedgehog in her brain ….what’s to be done about it?
Here we have the story of a regular girl with a regular job, boyfriend …life. Until one fateful day she discovers she has a hedgehog in her brain. A moral dillemma ensues.
Written by Tom Jensen, this is an aburdist play about how ordinary people deal with extraordinary situations in their lives. Discord, heartbreak, new love and fits all happen along the way.
Molly finds it hard to detach herself from Hedgie until an unexpected turn of events makes her reconsider.  Funny and even heartbreaking at times, the play’s reflection on human nature is loyal and without being patronising.
Headhog is directed by Simone Vause and stars Natasha Zierhofer as Molly Reeves. Natasha plays Molly with empathy and understanding giving us many beautiful moments drawing us in closer and closer as she deals with the question WHY?
Although little over an hour I wished the play had bit more pace but it offers an introspection that is always welcome. The Barons Court Theatre’s stage helps us feeling like we’re so close to Molly, maybe as close as the hedgehog is.
One thing is clear, the audience is on Molly’s side.
