RA: Young Artists’ Summer Show 2022
Online exhibition: From Tuesday 19 July 2022
Clore Learning Centre: Tuesday 19 July – Sunday 14 August 2022
The Royal Academy of Arts will present the fourth annual Young Artists’ Summer Show opening in the Clore Learning Centre and online from Tuesday 19 July 2022. The exhibition will display a selection of works by young artists aged 4-19 (key stages 1-5) from across the UK, selected by a panel of judges including Royal Academicians and RA Schools students. This year, over 21,000 entries were received from 3,438 registered schools.
Since the Royal Academy’s foundation in 1768, art education has been at its heart. The Young Artists’ Summer Show provides a platform for the skilled and varied work of students, champions the importance of art in education and celebrates the teachers fostering creativity in young people.
Royal Academician Vanessa Jackson will sit on the judging panel for primary-level artworks and Royal Academician Neil Jeffries will sit on the judging panel for secondary-level artworks. They will be joined by RA Schools students Mary Stephenson, Fleur Dempsey, Divine Southgate-Smith and Fischer Mustin and Curator of Paintings and Sculpture at the Royal Academy, Jennifer Powell.
Rebecca Salter, President of the Royal Academy, will award prizes to the two most inspiring artworks in each key stage. Visitors will also have the opportunity to vote for their favourite artwork in a People’s Choice Award, where there will be two winning artists. Voting will be open online from Tuesday 19 July – Wednesday 31 August.
The Young Artists’ Summer Show is supported by philanthropist Robin Hambro.
Rebecca Salter PRA, said: “The Young Artists’ Summer Show is now an important landmark in the diary of the Royal Academy. It is a pleasure to see the impressive standard of work being produced by young artists across the country, and the engagement of the next generation with the importance of art. The huge number of submissions in 2022 demonstrates the value of art to every child’s educational life and the amazing contribution of teachers in nurturing that talent.”
Molly Bretton, Head of Families, Access and Schools at the Royal Academy, said: “We’re passionate and committed to championing the importance of art and creativity in education, so we’re delighted to be welcoming exhibitors and audiences to our fourth year of the Young Artists’ Summer Show. It is a unique privilege to be part of the team receiving such a wealth of submissions and to witness the incredible skill and imagination of young artists across the UK. We can’t wait to open the virtual and physical doors of this year’s exhibition to share and celebrate their work!”
