Book Shambles 100th Episode – Robin Ince and Josie Long interview Bryan Cranston
The Cosmic Shambles Network are extremely proud to announce the landmark 100th episode of their hugely popular Book Shambles podcast in which regular presenters Robin Ince and Josie Long chat to very special guest, actor Bryan Cranston about his autobiography, A Life in Parts. Cranston is best known for his role as Walter White on the AMC crime drama Breaking Bad and most recently starred in the National Theatre production of Network.
In this fascinating interview Bryan talks frankly about his relationship with his parents, how he got into acting, how he finds his way into the characters he plays, the difference between British and American actors. There is even a discussion of the psychopathic petfood horror film genre.
The first episode of Book Shambles was released in November 2015 and so far the series has been downloaded over 1.5 million times during the last four years. As well as presenting interviews with some of the best known personalities of the publishing and entertainment worlds, Book Shambles has also become synonymous for its championing of lesser known interviewees whose work has piqued the team’s interest. Previous interviewees include Stewart Lee, Sara Pascoe, Ricky Gervais, Ruby Tandoh, Noel Fielding, Nick Offerman, Charlotte Church, Ian Rankin, Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀ and Alan Moore.
The live Book Shambles events have also been a huge success and forthcoming events include podcasts from the Royal Albert Hall (June) and The Edinburgh Festival Fringe (August).
Robin commented – “One day, a friend of mine said that I had now gone beyond bibliophile and become a bibliosexual. I love books. So when Josie and I decided we needed to bring back our Shambles podcast we decided the starting point would be lovely, lovely books. It has been a delight to find out what astronauts read in space (Chris Hadfield), that leading astrophysicists are secretly addicted to bodice rippers (Monica Grady), that US TV stars like to spend time in Margate (Nick Offerman), that Tanita Tikaram and I have a telepathic link when it comes to working out which lesbian detective thriller written entirely in verse is in her hessian bag and what Alan Moore’s favourite bath bombs are when reading necromancy in the tub.”
Book Shambles have been entirely funded by Patreon since the first release. Various tiered rewards are available for pledgers, including bonus episodes and an exclusive book club, and later this month the team will be recording their first episode with a Patreon who purchased a guest spot on the show for themselves!
