Black Power Desk Musical Premieres at Brixton House This September

A powerful new Black British musicalBlack Power Desk, will have its world premiere at Brixton House from 1 to 28 September 2025. Written by Urielle Klein-Mekongo, the production is inspired by real events from the British Black Power movement, including the Mangrove Nine.

A New Musical Rooted in History

Set in 1970s LondonBlack Power Desk follows two sisters caught between family ties, social unrest, and a secret police unit operating from inside New Scotland Yard. Blending themes of resistance, community, and identity, the show explores a lesser-known chapter of Black British history.

The musical features an original score performed live by a full band, mixing RnBreggaesoul, and ska. It is part of Brixton House’s Uprising Festival, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the 1985 Brixton Uprising.
